Finally! My XVth century pattens are ready:)

The piece of wood they are made from (alder) was brought to UK  from Poland. We put it into our hand luggage and Ryanair thought we want to kill the pilot with it and asked us to throw it away! After many disputes, we managed to move it to the main luggage and take it with us:)

The only tools Oki used were a saw and a chisel and it's a real labour of love :) Finished with linsed oil, they will be tested on Lanark Medieval Festival next weekend.

Dance Moot 2008, pilgrim's bag etc.

A long long time passed since my lasy update:) Mainly because I am finishing my dissertation for Master Degree in Poland... and it takes ages:( But I hope that in april it will be all over and I will have plenty of weekends to do embroidery, hairnets etc;)

Last weekend we had a very nice SCA event in Edinburgh- Dance Moot. Pictures can be seen here and here. The whole afternoon with live music and dances- heaven!

Just one day before the event, we died my new shoes brown, adding fastening (no buckels at the moment as Oki is preparing the form to cast them for me;)). I am so proud of them! Even though they are not perfect and I still need to add clamp sole and wax them.

Next thing I did very quickly just before Dance Moot is a pilgrim's bag.

Well... I did think that this is how it looks like as I kept in mind all the people I've seen wearing them in Poland during re-enactment events. But in fact, when I started to look for period art I couldn't find anything which looks like a linen rectangular bag !:( The pilgrim's bags have a different shape, as you can see below:

  Maciejowski Bible- XIII century

or a different colour:

Die pelgrimage van der menscheliker creaturen- c. 1440-1460

Does it mean that they were wearing leather bags, or if linen, of a different colour (black?) or shape? If you know any period pictures of the bag I made let me know:)

warsztaty/workshop no.2

Dawno mnie nie było, co nie oznacza oczywiście, że nic nie robię:) Jakiś czas temu udaliśmy sie do Johna aby poznać techniki szycia średniowiecznych butów.

During the short stay at John's place we managed to do one of my shoes and cut Oki's pair. A photo report can be found here:)

Potem wyruszyliśmy na turniej SCA do Walii na Raglan castle- fotki Okiego w przygotowaniu.

Recently we came back from Italy!!!! Beautiful place, sun, beach and amazing food:)

Byle do wiosny...

warsztaty/workshop no.1

It's amazing what you can do during private workshops with friends:) A week ago we went to Drew and Oki learned how to cast pewter! Below you can see his first medieval spoons:)

The one on the left is just how it is when you take it out from mould. The one on the right is polished and ready to use:) Now we can cast almost everything;) I only hope that our kitchen will survive that...
